DUBAI – Dubai’s flagship carrier Emirates has issued a strong travel advisory ahead of the Eid Al Adha holiday period, warning passengers of significantly increased traffic at airports and longer processing times.

The airline has urged travellers departing from Dubai to arrive at least three hours before their scheduled flight and to be at their boarding gates no later than 60 minutes prior to departure. With Eid traditionally marking one of the busiest travel windows of the year, the airline is preparing for a sharp surge in outbound passenger volumes from Dubai International Airport.

The carrier emphasised that security and immigration queues are expected to be longer than usual due to peak demand. It also recommended that passengers make use of public transport options, including the Dubai Metro, to avoid congestion on roads leading to the airport. Emirates currently operates flights to 137 destinations across 72 countries, spanning the Americas, Europe, Africa, West Asia, the Middle East and GCC, the Far East, and Australasia.

Peak travel

Emirates said the Eid Al Adha period is expected to bring a high volume of outbound passengers, particularly from Dubai, as residents travel overseas for holidays and family visits. The airline noted that airport processing times may increase due to congestion at key checkpoints, including check-in counters, immigration, and security screening areas.

The UAE has confirmed a four-day paid holiday for private sector employees for Eid Al Adha 2026, running from Tuesday, May 26 to Friday, May 29. Federal government employees will receive a longer break from Monday, May 25 to Friday, May 29. This extended holiday period is expected to intensify outbound travel demand from the UAE.

Emirates also reminded travellers that global aviation has been gradually recovering following earlier regional disruptions caused by geopolitical tensions, which had temporarily affected airspace routes and flight operations.

Check-in options

To ease congestion at the airport, Emirates has urged passengers to use its digital and remote check-in services. Travellers can check in online or via the airline’s mobile app, select seats in advance, and drop baggage early. In many cases, passengers can complete check-in and baggage drop-up to 24 hours before departure, or 12 hours in advance for US-bound flights.

The airline also offers self-service kiosks and Emirates check-in ports, although these services are not available for flights to the United States. Members of Emirates Skywards can register for biometric travel through the Emirates app, enabling facial recognition at various airport touchpoints.

A Home Check-in service is also available, allowing agents to complete the process at a passenger’s location. First Class customers and Platinum Skywards members are eligible for complimentary access to this service. However, passengers travelling to the US or those requiring special assistance must complete check-in at the airport.

Operational updates

Emirates confirmed that its First Class Lounge in Concourse C is currently under renovation. During this period, eligible passengers will be redirected to the First Class Lounge in Concourse B.

The airline has also advised customers to ensure their contact details are updated in the “Manage Your Booking” section so they can receive real-time travel alerts and operational updates.

In terms of network operations, Emirates continues to serve 137 destinations across 72 countries and said it is actively monitoring operational conditions to maintain schedule reliability. Passengers have been urged to check flight status before heading to the airport.

For disrupted travel plans, the airline has introduced flexible rebooking arrangements. Passengers travelling between February 28 and May 31 can rebook to the same destination or another city within the same region, with travel permitted up to June 15. Eligible customers may also request refunds where applicable.

Additionally, travellers booking flights from April 2 onwards are entitled to one complimentary date change across all cabin classes, although fare differences may still apply depending on fare conditions.

Emirates’ city check-in points in Dubai and Ajman remain temporarily closed. Passengers requiring in-person assistance are directed to service desks at Terminal 3 of Dubai International Airport, Emirates World at Jumeirah Town Centre, and the Emirates Group Technology Centre in Deira.
